Thriving at 3Thriving at Three is a United Way of Greater Greensboro community collaboration with a simple premise: children who are healthy, physically and emotionally, by age three are more likely to be successful in school and in life.

All children in Greater Greensboro will be Thriving at Three years of age

3-Pronged Strategy

A Thriving Community

*To engage and empower parents and caregivers by providing clear, useful information on child health and development andavailable services to promote active participation in their children’s well being.

*To promote a strong, high-quality system of care that includes community-family partnerships supported by well-coordinated services from public and private agencies working with children.

*To conduct outreach to homes with vulnerable children as close to birth as possible and provide services that link families to community resources.

The “Thriving at Three” Initiative aims to build alliances that strengthen our ability to make sure children grow up as healthy and contributing citizens in our community. Economically speaking, James Heckman University of Chicago professor and writer for the Wall Street Journal, explains that assisting children and their families at the earliest stages helps “promote schooling, raise the quality of the work force, enhance the productivity of schools, and reduce crime, teenage pregnancy and welfare dependency.” These words are loud sirens for our community. Let’s get moving!

Professional Team

Community Collaborative

Thriving at 3The professional team is comprised of two direct service providers, Sickle Cell Disease Association of the Piedmont (SCDAP) and The Center for New North Carolinians (CNNC). These providers have been contracted to  deliver services in the home to at-risk children ages 0-3. In addition to working with the children, the agencies will partner with the parents to ensure the child’s first years will establish a positive and strong foundation. These services include direct interventions, referrals, and care coordination for up to three years, as well as, evaluation of this model.

The Thriving at Three Community Collaborative is a dynamic group of professionals and volunteers working together to create a coordinated, high quality continuum of care for all children. Major organizations that work with children 0-3 have joined our efforts to create a system of care that reaches all of our most vulnerable children. Partnerships have been established between professionals to ensure the success of the Direct Service Projects.
